Waste

At our site in Great Blakenham we have the facilities to recycle many different materials – from cars through cans, from milk cartons to fridges and computers. In terms of environmental benefits, recycling avoids sending things to landfill or incineration as well as reducing the energy it takes to manufacture new materials – it’s much more efficient to use recycled materials in the manufacture of most products than it is to use raw materials. Here are a few facts*:

  • 92% of all UK local authorities now collect plastic;
  • We use 12.5 million tonnes of paper each year;
  • The amount of glass recycled has doubled over the last 5 years;
  • 1 million tonnes of electrical and electronic waste is generated every year
  • Juice cartons are made with between 70-90% paperboard – a renewable natural product – much of it can be recycled

* Recycle Now

As you’ll see above, your local authority collects many of your household waste items regularly. For those of you who don’t have this facility, or for more unusual items not collected, we’re happy to take collection for recycling. Items such as computer equipment, fridges, washing machines etc., can all be decommissioned, sorted and recycled – if you’re not sure, take a look at our Frequently Asked Questions or give us a call and we’ll let you know how best to tackle your household waste.

With the help of Sackers and our supporters we have reached a little over 85% recycling rate.
